Dogs!

I am owned by an Australian Blue Heeler named Nya. She is a cattle dog, in a manner of speaking. Heelers are bread as herding dogs. Really the only thing she herds is my roomate and I and his dog Monkey. Today the pest control guy came out to spray and accidentally left the gate open. Nya is used to being off-leash so she didn't go far, but Monkey is another story all together. In order to understand the personality of Monkey, a story is needed. There are certain fish in the Gulf of Mexico that you simply don't want to catch. I call them Jack fish but that is not the proper name. Anyhow, if a Jack fish gets on your line there will be trouble. The second they are hooked they start swimming out to the open ocean, which means reeling for hours. It is a pain and not really worth the trouble. That brings me back to Monkey's personality which is similar, in nature, to the Jack fish. The second she is free to run she heads out to the open ocean. Monkey points in a direction and stays the course. That makes it difficult to catch her. Today Monkey made a run for it but the pest control guy and I were able to stop her thankfully. I hope that we will have that much success the next time Monkey makes a run for it.

  1. Sounds like an adventure. My dogs like to take off but they are usually just going to visit the neighbor. When they take off I usually know exactly where to find them. I take a rolled up newspaper with me and hit my hand with it. For some reason it scares them and they know to go home. I love you first sentence I sometimes feel as though I am "OWNED" by my dogs as well!!!

  2. I have a wiener dog that used to enjoy his freedom the same way. He's a tunneler so he'd get under the fence and break out. I have to call out into the street and sure enough he'd come around the corner. He'd come back, but I was always so scared when he went on one of his trips.
