The Power of Suggestion

I contend that TV is brainwashing all its viewers. One day I will be in a movie theatre and in mid-scene, a commercial will interrupt. I cannot prove this, but I do think it is the direction we as a society are heading. I know many people who see something in a commercial and feel compelled to get whatever it is days later. I ask myself why? Is the human race so weak that we simply cannot think for ourselves. Just because Kay Jewelers shows that diamonds will improve our relationships doesn't mean that it will. The car bought for a wife or husband will not make the relationship better. We will have to work on that regardless of a Lexus or an El Camino(which rocks BTW). Humans are sheep. We should all try thinking for ourselves and be mindful of what happens to sheep.

  1. I agree I think that we need to be more invested in our actions and realize that we do things because we think we have to. I think it is easy to feel less than everyone else because we do not have a certain brand of something.

  2. What came first the chicken or the egg? Did you want the product before the commercial or was the the commercial that made you buy it? An El Camino may rock but have you ever really ridden in one--they are not comfortable, especially when riding over potholes and when struck near the gasoline tank. And what's wrong with the life of a well fed sheep who then goes on to live other lifetimes but keeping humans warm and fed. Remember, the food chain, or the trophic social network, describes the eating relationships between species within the ecosystem. We are all connected to the organisems we consumer --aka transfer of energy. The sheep provide twice, they are very giving.

  3. I don't believe that television is entirely to blame, personally. Besides having a thumb, humans are also seperated by their ability to choose. Undoubtedly, we (humans) sometimes will make a decision that may not be in our best interest at the time. What matters is why we made such a decision and how the results of the decision are handled. Continually making decisions based on what someone else says may be more a sign of emotional/psychological issues than a 'sheep' thought pattern.

    Just a thought.

  4. Oh, but movies already have commercials in them--from the cars the actors drive, to their cell phones, to their drinks of choice! Branding at its best!
